Treat Horrible Heel Pain With Dr. Defabio’s Integrative Approach

Dr. DeFabio is a Chiropractic Orthopedist and has been treating patients with his integrative approach for more than 30 years. He is a Board Certified Chiropractic Orthopedist, Board Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician and a Certified Corrective and Performance Exercise Specialist, at the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

His practice, the DeFabio Chiropractic Spine and Sports Rehabilitation Center is the longest standing practice in Berkeley Heights, NJ.

He was selected NJ TOP DOC for four consecutive years between 2012 and 2015 and the Association of NJ Chiropractors’ 2013 Doctor of the Year.

In the video below, he discusses a common condition that causes a lot of pain to the heel. It is called plantar fascilitis.

The condition affects the plantar fascia. Due to a strain it will get weak, swollen and irritated. The primary role of supporting the arch of your foot is inhibited in this case.

Dr. DeFabio opts for the natural, non-surgical approach to treating plantar fascilitis.

He uses an interdisciplinary approach.

First, make sure there is no joint dysfunction at the mechanics in the foot. If this is the case, the foot, ankle, knee or hip are to be adjusted!

Second is to decrease the inflammation in the plantar fascia and then focus on bringing back flexibility to the calf muscle.

The good thing is that you can do this at home using an instrument called the intracell stick.

In the office, they use a procedure named Graston. The technique implements “a stainless steel instrument and going over the tissue to break down scar tissue adhesion.”

The idea is to lengthen the tissue and create elasticity if you are affected with the plantar fascilitis. It will also drive blood into the area and by doing so promotes healing. Work over the calves as well.

If your job includes standing for over prolonged periods of time and you are receiving the treatment at the moment, you will be prescribed with an orthotic, custom molded footbed to support the arch.

A method that will really walk the extra mile to relieve your pain is the combination of kinesio tape with sports specific taping. Apply some Luko tape around the Achilles and wrap it up as well as you can.

The whole point is to give some extra support to the foot.

To sum things up, the integrative approach of chiropractic, soft tissue work, rehabilitative exercises, specific taping and myofascial release are the cure to get rid of that plantar fascilitis once and for all!

This practice has seen a lot of pleased clients!

YouTube user D. Banes writes: “Dr. Defabio is excellent and attentive when it comes to diagnosing his patients and creating the best rehabilitative regime for his clients.”

“I am very pleased with care that I received in his office. His entire staff are very friendly and welcoming. “, he says.
